Remembering Madiba is all we have to keep his legacy alive. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela left a legacy of hope for us to live by when he departed from this life on December 5th 2013.
His story began on July 18, 1918 and took many turns – for example he was an anti-aparthied revolutionary, politician, activist, lawyer, and philanthropist. At one time in his life, he served over 27 years in prison for conspiracy to overthrow the state of South Africa. After his release in 1990, he went on to be South Africa’s first black chief executive and the first to be elected in a fully representative democratic election.
“Difficulties break some men but make others. No axe is sharp enough to cut the soul of a sinner who keeps on trying, one armed with the hope that he will rise even in the end.”
Although, Nelson Mandela was well respected for his accomplishments, he will be remembered for his legacy. His life’s work is comparable to no one in this and any other generation and it was with this respect that leaders from all over the world came to pay respect at his funeral.
With Nelson Mandela no longer with us, his words, like the quote above will constantly challenge us to HOPE for a better world and to work at making sure that we see it come to pass in our lifetime.
Remember Madiba. Tell your children about his legacy and let them know that life is about the sum of our experiences and how it affects the people around the world.
