On Saturday, the Office of African Affairs hosted the very first African Cultural Festival in Washington DC at the Takoma Community Center. The event was entitled “Celebrating DC Communities through Arts and Culture”. The event featured live entertainment, arts activities, food and vendors.
It event was opened to the public and was well attended by both resident and non-residents of the District. The event featurd performances from groups that hailed from South Africa, Uganda – Mbuutu, peformances by TulumiDe and many others.
The highlight of the event was a parade of flags where people of various African nations paraded with their country flags in support of the theme of the festival. Overall, the event was a great success and set the stage for the coming years.
