The 7th annual Fest Africa 2009 was held in Baltimore over the weekend with a huge turnout.
The 7th annual African festival, “FestAfrica 09,” was held at Patterson Park in Baltimore on Saturday Aug. 8 and Sunday Aug. 9.
The 2-day celebration welcomed over 5,000 attendees, featuring traditional African music and dance performances, fashion shows, arts & crafts, vendors, African cuisine, games, face painting, story telling, and a health fair.
This is the official African festival for Baltimore City cosponsored by Mayor Sheila Dixon, the Baltimore Office of Promotions and the Arts and the Maryland State Arts Council.
The theme for this year’s festival was “Serving & Touring Africa,” promoting tourism and community service in Africa. With the latest addition of a Tourism Fair into the festival, attendees had the opportunity to learn about areas of attractions, travel and tourism options in various African countries. The festival also promoted community service opportunities by highlighting non-profit organizations doing good work in Africa and supporting and their work.
